I participated in a furniture workshop organized by French designer Dominique Mathieu. The subject of this week workshop was to create a bicolor long “narrow” bench (2 m long/ 20 cm wide) out of wood pieces. I chose black in order to accentuate the long straight lines. This bench seats four to five people.

I learned a lot during this workshop, mainly how to draw and build up models to real scale with the final materials. Actually, this method is time saving because when you are faced with the problem you can then find the solution before you go further into the building process. Thinking by doing is a good way for me to find the ways to improve the shape or the technics, and it can give you ideas that you would never have thought of by just drawing.
