Carapace is a folding paper structure inspired by origami. My reflection around these structures was about how they can be opened and closed when you elongate or knot the folding. It looks like a human breath, when you move it elongates the paper and closed after with a rhythm.

My project with these structures was to create a room which has its walls with this carapace structure. At the back a mechanism allows it to move as a breath. It will give the sensation that the room is alive.

I have done the carapace walls at the scale of a telephone box. In my mockup, the walls were moving thanks to human action at the back. People who tried to go into the room experienced different sensations: some felt relaxed and isolated from the noise, some felt oppressed and scared.
